Facing the Angels, Jim Leyland turned toward the angel on his shoulder Saturday. The Tigers' manager, a devout cigarette aficionado, took on the specter of Michigan's public smoking ban for the first time when Detroit hosted Los Angeles at Comerica Park, a 3-2 victory thanks to Johnny Damon's ninth-inning solo home run. The law took effect at 6 a.m. ET and applies to nearly all public workplaces in the state. "I'm a law-abiding citizen, so it's just the way it is," Leyland said Friday, according to The Grand Rapids Press.
I didn't know you could even do this. If my lady smokes the cigs it's a deal breaker. You think I'm gonna let Prince Connor grow up in a house where his lounges can't grow to full capacity? He needs those fuckers for when he's dunking on an aging Lebron. But a 60 something year old baseball coach inhaling tar? I love it and I can't put a finger on why. You can't get mad at the guy because in his day that's the way shit went. Try scaring him with some scenario where he gets cancer and die. He'd just stand up and tell you he could've died in Korea but he had a country to protect. You're off thinking about what a proud veteran he is instead of a ticking time bomb for emphysema. Leyland probably drinks scotch like it's water and when he signals for Willis, he tells the bullpen coach to "put the colored boy" in. And you can't say anything because that's how he was raised and he saved your uncle in the pacific.
