The Boston Red Sox have completed a deal for Adrian Gonzalez, sources tell ESPN.com's Jayson Stark. The Red Sox reached an agreement with the San Diego Padres on a trade that will send Gonzalez to Boston for four minor league prospects. The Red Sox were working up to a 2 p.m. ET deadline Sunday afternoon to sign the All-Star to a contract extension, and have agreed to contract parameters. In exchange, the Padres would receive three prospects in pitcher Casey Kelly, first baseman Anthony Rizzo and outfielder Reymond Fuentes, according to a baseball source. The Padres also would receive a player to be named later, a source told ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes.
I'm still upset about Tiger's rough final round but this helps. This helps a whole fucking bunch. I still think this trade is an absolute steal, contract extension or not. I'll give up prospects 98 days out of the week if it means we get the best first baseman in the game. Theo Epstein for president. He lets his brilliance shine once again.
P.S. Mike Cameron is already #23 so does that mean Gonzo will take on #24? He's gotta, right? That's a big boy number. I've been keeping my jersey for 2 years since Man-Ram left in hopes of a new #24 showing up.
