I Just Puked All Over My Laptop

ESPN’s new content and digital business initiative for women, espnW, launches today, espnW.com Dec. 6. Presented in a blog format, espnW.com will offer fan- and athlete-centric content geared toward female athletes and sports fans aged 18+. The site, supported by a Twitter and Facebook presence, will incorporate posts by top female sports columnists and bloggers, pro athletes, expert contributors and news from a variety of ESPN and non-ESPN news outlets. This 1.0 version of espnW.com will serve as a precursor to a more robust web site with mobile applications and personalized content that will launch in Spring 2011. “espnW.com represents our commitment to serving female fans and athletes on a dedicated platform. After more than two years of research and preparation, we are excited to create a specific community for women to talk sports and be inspired both as a fan and as a participant,” said Laura Gentile, VP espnW and ESPN RISE digital and publishing. “We are bringing together top athletes, writers and newsmakers in a way that is authentic to ESPN but will be unique to espnW’s audience.”

Ew. Ew. Ew. Ew. What the fuck is this? We have categorize our interests by gender now? Separate but equal? Fuck that. Let's look at facts. There is no Women's football league. The WNBA is a joke. If we didn't live in CT, we wouldn't give a fuck about the UConn Women's basketball team, and the only reason people watched softball in the Olympics is because Jennie Fitch has a tight ass. That's it. Nobody gives a fuck about women's sports because they suck. They're boring. We can't relate to it. And I get that this site isn't geared toward women's sports as much as it's supposed to be a platform for women to talk about sports. But that's not what ESPN is. Does anybody really read ESPN for objective opinions? All they do is try to discredit sports blogs and now they're creating one? It's dishonest. Pick one side of the fence and live with yourself. ESPN.com is basically a news reporting site and they do a great job at it but they're aren't going to give you anything of substance as far as opinions go. It's just all confusing to me. They had a product that has thrived for years and now they wanna flex their muscles to show how big of a media monster they are. It's kind of gross.
