The trade that sent Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel to the Kansas City Chiefs appears to be only the first phase of some major wheeling and dealing by the New England Patriots this offseason. The second phase, NFL sources say, is likely to involve a trade that would send Peppers to the Patriots in exchange for the second-round pick (34th overall) they received from the Chiefs Feb. 28. According to league sources, the Patriots and Panthers are hoping to complete the deal at some point between the March 22-25 NFL owners meetings and the start of the draft on April 25.
Just when we thought the Pats were foolish for getting rid of Cassel and Vrabel for a 2nd round pick they turn right around and remind us why the Patriots are we thought they were. Champions. Brilliant. Pioneers. Why trade two good players for Peppers when Carolina would settle for the 34th pick? Peppers already said multiple times he wants to play linebacker for a 3-4 defense. Oh, I think I know a championship winning coach he loves the 3-4. Oh yeah, that would be us. 29 years old and I think his best years are ahead of him if he does convert to linebacker. He's an absolute freak and one of the best athletes in the game. Did I mention the Pats signed Shawn Springs, and are on the verg of getting Joey Galloway too? Some guy named Fred Taylor is on the team but that's old news. I smell another superbowl coming to New England and would like to ask the rest of the league one thing. How does our ass taste?
