ALLENDALE -- Apartment neighbors of Grand Valley State University student Derek Copp say they cannot fathom what prompted police to shoot him late Wednesday in a drug-related raid. Friends say he is in fair condition. If you came down the hallway at the right time, you could smell the smoke," said Joe Putra, whose apartment door is in the same Campus View Apartments hallway as the shooting victim.Copp, a Spring Arbor native, has been at GVSU since 2007, the same year he graduated from Jackson Community College, according to his page on Facebook. He identifies himself as "a left-wing hippie peace-keeping liberal," who is seeking a film degree. He said people would "come and go" to the apartment often, particularly last fall.
Maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me like the cops overreacted a bit. Maybe a little paranoid. Judgement seems a bit flawed here. Wouldn't shock me if a report comes out these coppers hit up taco bell after that. This just screams drug deal gone bad. Think Pineapple Express or even Blow. Someone always gets shot and it's usually the dealer. I like the neighbors comments too. People would come and go to the apartment often. I think we can put the pieces together on that one. Anyway, the kid is a left wing hippie peace keeping liberal. That's the last fucking thing we need in this country. It's ok. While you're hugging a tree, real men are fighting over seas to protect a little thing we call democracy. This kid is a threat to our national security as far I'm concerned. Once again, sounds like a Jack Bauer mission just trying to keep our reputation as American Badasses alive.
