Receiver Santonio Holmes, who was traded to the New York Jets on Sunday from the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported. The Jets acquired the talented but troubled receiver from the Steelers for a fifth-round pick in this month's draft, sources confirmed to ESPN.com. ESPN 1050 in New York first reported the trade, which has yet to be formally announced. But the Jets, who were aware Holmes was facing a suspension, will have to wait to unveil their newest receiving option. On Saturday, Pro Football Talk.com first reported Holmes was facing a suspension. The Web site reported it was unknown whether Holmes tested positive for a prohibited substance or committed some other violation of the policy, such as missing a required test, and that the Holmes' appeal process had not been finalized. Schefter's source told him Monday that although the four-game suspension has not officially been announced by the NFL, it has been finalized.
Gotta love what the Jets are doing. They're like the rehab of the NFL. Just throw them your bad boys so they can live up to this raw image that they're trying so hard to portray. The bottom line is this. Santonio Holmes is good but I don't want him on my team. I have a strict policy that says I don't hang with guys who beat up or rape women. You'll have to excuse me for being so judgmental. Also, what gets lost in this discussion is in order for Holmes to catch the ball it has to be thrown by Mark Sanchez. I've never seen a player rise to such fame and have his stock go so high after what I thought was a fluke postseason. He has one good game and the media labels him as "poised." Then he plays to the player that he is and they let him off by calling him "green behind the ears."
P.S. Santonio Holmes is in the last year of his contract and he's suspended for the first 4. So the Jets really just traded for a head case for 12 games. BAHAHAHAHAHA
