Pele Is Jealous
Brazilian footballing royalty Pele has downplayed the ability of Argentine superstar Lionel Messi by declaring that the Barcelona man has to “score 1000 goals” like he did until we can really start talking about his pedigree. Reigning Ballon d’Or winner and World Footballer of the Year Messi has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 40 goals in 44 club games, and his four-goal haul against Arsenal in the Champions League last week has led some to compare the attacker with the likes of Diego Maradona and Pele.
Im sensing some major jealousy from Pele here. He's afraid that Messi's gonna ruin his legacy. I love the controversy. Pele might be one of the only guys i know that would handle it this way by saying "yeah, he's not that great". You never see Michael Jordan downplaying Lebron, or Wayne Gretzky calling Sid the Kid a scrub. So yeah, this is kind of a dick move on Pele's part. I would love to see Pele strap on the old boots one more time and take Messi on. A good ol' fashion duel perhaps. I wish i was able to see Pele in his prime so that i could judge this. All i know is Messi is ridiculous and i wouldn't be surprised if he get those 1000 goals. He's still a pretty young kid. I hope him saying that just motivated Messi to play better. So all i have to say is watch out, Pele, you may have just woken (waken? awoken? im not sure) the sleeping giant.
