Arenas Pleads Guilty
WASHINGTON (AP)—Gilbert Arenas(notes) says he deserves to be punished for bringing guns to the locker room. The suspended Washington Wizards guard told Esquire magazine that he wasn’t using “longevity thinking” when he took out four guns in what he says was an attempt to play a prank on teammate Javaris Crittenton(notes) in December. Arenas pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge in January and will be sentenced next week. He has been suspended until the end of the season by the NBA.
This story is so interesting. Why isnt Arenas being like every other famous athlete and using his money and fame to get himself out of this? Dante Stallworth hit and killed someone with his car while driving drunk and only had to serve like a month sentence or something. And im pretty sure he's coming back to the NFL next year. Try and tell me that any other regular person wouldnt get at least 10 years for that. Are you telling me that Gilbert Arenas actually has some integrity, and is taking responsibility for his actions? It sure looks like it, and im flabergasted. I bet he easily could've been like "oh, did i bring those four guns? 'Cause i couldve sworn those came with the locker, and it was just a joke anyway so don't get mad. Did i mention i make millions of dollars?" BAM! Trouble avoided. Nope, he's taking responsibility for it instead and i respect him for that. If only Kobe, Roethlisberger, Stallworth, and every other famous athlete could do the same.
