Tiger Woods took questions from reporters for the first time in four months Sunday, saying "I've done some pretty bad things in my life" and that he doesn't know what kind of reception he'll get when he returns to competitive golf at the Masters. "I'm a little nervous about that to be honest with you," Woods told ESPN's Tom Rinaldi, who asked him what he expects when he returns to golf on April 8 following an auto accident which led to an indefinite leave from professional golf and an admission of multiple affairs. "It would be nice to hear a couple claps here and there." Woods conducted two interviews Sunday afternoon at Isleworth, the golf club near his home in Windermere, Fla. In addition to ESPN, Woods spoke with the Golf Channel. The interview was offered to ESPN with no restrictions on questions, but with a five-minute time limitation, plus an agreement to hold it for airing on television beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. Woods hasn't been questioned by reporters since he was involved in a one-car crash outside his Florida home in the early-morning hours of Nov. 27. He declined to answer questions about the specifics of the accident. "Well, it's all in the police report," he said. "Beyond that everything's between [wife] Elin and myself and that's private." He also wouldn't get into specifics about his infidelity, though he did tell Rinaldi that "just one is enough ... and obviously that wasn't the case."
Let's be honest for a second. Tiger is an odd guy. Just a total weirdo. I wouldn't let him sleep in the guest room. Great golfer, phenomenal athlete, suspect driver, occasional drug user, bad husband, awful father. That's what he is. People want to jump on the hate-tiger train and call him fake or phony because of the way he acts in his interviews. But this isn't new. Go back and look at old clips from when he won the masters and shit. He's a robot. Look at his eyes, too. It's like he's dead inside and that's what makes him so great. He's got the ability to block out distractions and focus on whatever he needs to get the job done. Whether it's sinking a birdie or slapping an ass, he does it 100%. You gotta give him that.
