- Chuck This series is about an "average computer-whiz-next-door" (Chuck) who receives an encoded e-mail from an old college friend now working in the CIA; the message embeds the only remaining copy of the world's greatest spy secrets into Chuck's brain. Chuck works at the equivalent of a Best Buy when he gets the secrets and both the NSA and CIA send agents to get the information back. Chuck is the only remaining copy of the secrets so they must protect him at all costs.
- Dexter This series is about the title character, Dexter, who is a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department. What makes this show awesome is that Dexter is also a serial killer who only kills other killers.
- The Hard Times of RJ Berger This is a brand new show on MTV that's hilarious (I'm actually quite shocked that MTV managed to produce a good show). The Hard Times of RJ Berger is about the nerdy title character, his huge wang and his difficulty fitting in at high school. One of the recent episodes had an intro that was one of the more hilarious intros I have seen in a while.
- Pretty Little Liars This show is the epitome of this blog - a girly/guilty pleasure show that can be rationalized because of the ridiculous amount of hot girls that star on it. Pretty Little Liars is about a group of girl friends "whose clique falls apart after the disappearance of their friend Alison." The girls start receiving texts from someone named "A" who knows all their secrets. It has been described as a Gossip Girl meets Desperate Housewives so if you like either of those 2 shows you'll like this one. If you don't like those shows you should still watch for the hot girls and my new television crush, Lucy Hale. Two months ago I wrote about the pilot and you can read that here.
- Friday Night Lights This is one of my favorite shows on television. It premiered in October 2006 with a 22 episode season but was cut off after 15 episodes into the second season because of the writers strike. After the strike NBC moved the show to a DirectTV only channel. It's a shame this happened (most of it was really bad timing) because the acting, writing, drama and realness of the show are phenomenal. Did I mention there's tons of hot girls on the show too?
- The Big Bang Theory The nerdiest show on television and I wouldn't want it any other way. If you aren't down with the nerd lingo this show might not be for you but let's deal with the facts - you're on the internet reading peoples blogs. You are probably a nerd. The Big Bang Theory is about 2 REALLY nerdy guys who live across the hall from a hot Cheesecake Factory waitress (Kaley Cuoco) and their 2 REALLY nerdy friends.
- Breaking Bad This AMC show is one of the most under-the-radar shows on T.V. and it really shouldn't be because it is so good. Breaking Bad is about "a struggling high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer at the beginning of the series. He turns to a life of crime, producing and selling methamphetamine with his former student in a desire to secure his family's financial future." Bryan Cranston has won the Emmy for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series" 2 years in a row and is trying to make it 3 in a row this year.
- Sons of Anarchy That brings me to the most badass show on this list - Sons of Anarchy. SOA is about a motorcycle gang in the fictional city of Charming, California. They mainly run guns and kick all sorts of ass but don't let that fool you into thinking that's all this show has to offer. SOA is so much more than that. It is one of the most in-depth dramas on T.V. and the plot is crazy. I don't want to spoil anything but the cliffhanger at the end of season 2 is wild and I have been really anticipating the start of season 3.
Chuck offers the perfect blend of comedy, action and hot girls. It is created by Josh Schwartz (The O.C., Gossip Girl) and has aired 3 seasons (54 episodes) so far. The 4th season starts September 20th.
Dexter has a cult following and is one of the most popular shows on Showtime but not everyone gets Showtime so not everyone can watch it. The fact that it is on Showtime means they can show tits which is reason enough to watch it. There have been 48 episodes so far and the 5th season starts September 26th.
Whether you watch this show for the dirty jokes, the hot girl or the awkward sexual innuendos by RJ's parents, this show has staying power on MTV. There have only been 10 episodes aired so far but it was recently renewed for a 2nd season so stop watching Jersey Shore re-runs and catch up on RJ.
There have been 9 episodes so far and the summer finale is tonight (August 10th). 12 additional episodes were ordered and they will begin airing in January 2011 to complete the 1st season.
There have been 4 seasons (64 episodes) and the 5th and final season should start sometime this fall. ABC Family just acquired the syndication rights and will begin airing the show next month so that gives you a good chance to catch up.
There have been 3 seasons (63 episodes) and the 4th season starts September 23rd. It is really easy to plow through seasons of this show because the episodes are only 21 minutes so I highly suggest you start watching this show. Last season the viewer numbers went way up and the show was rewarded with 5 Emmy nomination. I'm not the only one who thinks it's good.
The 3rd season just ended in June and the 4th season will start in June 2011. That gives you more than enough time to watch all 33 episodes.
Two weeks ago I posted the season 3 promos and cast interviews from Comic Con so check those out if you want a better feel for the show. The 3rd season begins 3 weeks from today (September 7th) so if you can watch the 26 episodes from the first 2 seasons before then you should.
