It's Time To Quit On UConn

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Pittsburgh was supposed to be rebuilding this season. Instead the Panthers are building toward another run at a Big East championship. Brad Wanamaker and Ashton Gibbs each scored 19 points and the Panthers (No. 20 ESPN/USA Today, No. 16 AP) won again on the road, beating No. 15 Connecticut 67-57.The Panthers (14-2) have now won seven straight games and are 4-0 in the conference, with consecutive road wins at No. 5 Syracuse, Cincinnati and now UConn.Gilbert Brown added 11 points for the Panthers, who were not ranked at the start of the season, after losing stars Sam Young, DeJuan Blair and Levance Fields from a team that won 31 games a year ago.

Young and talented was a way that some used to describe UConn. Well, they're not that young and they're not that talented. Sure, Dyson is a great slasher and Stanley Robinson is an explosive player but that's what sucks about guys that are described as explosive. They come in spurts. And it's during those spurts of no production that other high energy teams like Pitt can come and absolutely pounce on the competition. Pitt isn't a bad a team team in any regard but come the fuck on. If UConn is a real team then you win games on your home turf. You don't blow 20 point leads against Georgetown or even give Cincy breathing room to muster an upset. The bottom line is UConn was ranked way too highly at the beginning of the year and they're still clinging to the false hope that they're better than they really are. Just give up on this team. You don't wanna go through a whole season believing they can turn it on and some point and make everything click. Trust me. Story of my life. But if you wanna support a team that will inevitably finish 5th in the Big East and go out early in the tourny because of a lack of leadership at the guard position then I can't help you.
