Sunday Night Baseball Drinking Game - Dodgers vs. Angels Edition

bobby valentine sunday night baseball los angeles dodgers los angeles angels espn drinking game
Bobby Valentine is quickly climbing his way up the "most annoying announcer list" so here is our Sunday Night Baseball Drinking Game to get you through the night. The "drink" rules will stay the same each week but the "chug" rule will change depending on who's playing.

Drink every time:

ESPN uses the behind the plate camera view
They use K-Zone during an at-bat (one drink per batter)
Bobby Valentine says something that makes you want to mute the TV
The ump and K-Zone disagree (2 drinks)

Chug:

Whenever the announcers talk about the Dodgers ownership problems/bankruptcy/mess.

Don Mattingly Looks High on 'Lopez Tonight'

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly was on 'Lopez Tonight' tonight? Last night? I don't know when you're reading this post. "Tonight tonight" doesn't sound right so it can't be that.

Is Don Mattingly high here? I almost feel stupid asking that question. He's 50 with a soul patch. He might as well be at a 7/11 at 3am buying microwaveable snacks and chex mix. During this interview they show a highlight from his playing days and it's of him stealing popcorn from a 4-year-old. I mean, really? Mark Cuban really needs to buy the Dodgers now.

Mark Cuban Wants to Buy Dodgers

mark cuban los angeles dodgers tmz buy owner frank mccourt
Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, sat down with TMZ yesterday and talked about a variety of topics including the Mavericks and the Dodgers. He was asked if he would be interested in buying the Los Angeles Dodgers if the opportunity presented itself.
"I have an interest in Major League Baseball for the right deal," Cuban told TMZ.com. "But it's just such a mess, right? I can't imagine that it's not going to be such a mess that it's (not) going to make it hard to turn around."

"But if it's just so screwed up, that the pieces are so messed up, that it takes 20 years to fix. ... I mean, there's literally franchises out there that are just in such disarray and such a mess, in multiple leagues, that no one can fix them."

"If the deal is right and they're fixable, then I'm very interested."
Right now the Dodgers are in a complete and total mess but there's nothing a little (or big) cash infusion can't fix. Hello, Mark Cuban and you're $2.5 billion net worth! Frank McCourt owns the team right now but MLB could step in and take control of the team any day because the McCourt doesn't have enough money to meet the payroll. If you don't know much about the situation or just want to read a really good article about it go here.

Mark Cuban should, nay, needs to buy the Dodgers. A baseball team can be fixed and turned into a winner with a little patience, time and a lot of cash. Mark Cuban has all of that. He has enough money to build up the farm system, whether it's signing foreign players, signing top draftees, or both, while also making big splashes in free agency. He's also the type of polarizing figure that would thrive in Los Angeles. He would be able to generate buzz and excitement for the Dodgers that hasn't been there in a while.

Here is the part of his sit-down with TMZ yesterday where he talks about the Dodgers:

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Game Suspended

los angeles dodgers san diego padres vin scully baseball mlb
NOOOOOOO! Here I was thinking I was going to be able to watch baseball and listen to Vin Scully past 5 am. Boy, was I wrong. Vin Scully makes his own rules. He had enough. He had to get to sleep. He has to get his sleep now if he wants to stay awake while calling Padres games tomorrow.

The Dodgers Padres Game is Packed

The Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres game is in the 6th inning but they just resumed from their 3rd rain delay. The game started over 6 hours ago which puts it at an hour per inning pace. Pretty much everyone left the game because they have to go to photo shoots or celebrity rehab. Oh wait, this game is in San Diego, not Los Angeles. Yeah bad joke, I apologize. Am I at a Yankees game or a Padres game? Alright, I don't apologize for that gone, it felt good.

I don't blame people for leaving (even though I wouldn't have left...I would be getting hammered watching Matt Kemp be awesome). I have MLB.TV so I can give you these awesome pictures of the packed crowd at Petco Park. MLB is notorious for making people take down game content so don't be surprised if this shit gets taken down in the next ten minutes. I have nothing better to do on a Friday night than listen to Vin Scully. I'm sorry that I'm not sorry.

Andre Ethier Ridiculous Photo Shoot For L.A. Times Magazine

andre ethier L.A. Times Magazine photo shoot
I'm not sure what's worse - the "uggghhhh" inducing title of this article or the actual pictures. "Dre's Anatomy"? Seriously? I'm always a fan of terrible puns but "Dre's Anatomy"? Are you kidding me? Andre Ethier, outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers, did a photo shoot for L.A. Times Magazine and looked absolutely ridiculous. You may be thinking, "L.A. Times Magazine...where do I remember that from?". Well 3 months ago Kobe Bryant also did a photo shoot for L.A. Times Magazine looking just as ridiculous. The interview actually wasn't terrible and Ethier seems like a good guy but were the pictures really necessary? In the picture at the top he looks like Fegan Floop from Spy Kids.

Let's see what we have here:

3. Yeah, I was excited about the season premiere of Mad Men last week too but clearly not as excited as Ethier.

The Daily Grind - Sports Bets

Yesterday: 0-4
Overall: 0-4

Okay, so I broke rule number one of baseball betting. I bet against the Washington Nationals. I deserved to go 0 for 4. Seriously, I swing and missed more than Chad Billingsley at a frat party. He's portly.

-Dodgers vs. Giants (OVER 7.5) - 4:10 PM (MLB) - My boy Chad Billingsley will probably be too distracted by my analogy to have a pitching duel with the ever-inconsistent Barry Zito.

- Braves (+1.5) vs. Reds - 4:10 PM (MLB)

-Mariners (moneyline) vs. Twins - 7:10 PM (MLB) - King Felix and his league leading 145 strikeouts takes on the Twins in the surprisingly un-hitter friendly Target Field.

-Orioles vs. Royals (moneyline) - 7:10 PM (MLB) - Zack Greinke won a CY Young award. Start acting like it.

Carl Crawford Gets Nailed in the Nuts, Don Mattingly is an Idiot

In addition to all of the fantasy baseball action that happened Tuesday/Wednesday (which you can see in the post below) there were a few awesome highlights. As a Red Sox fan it gives me great pleasure whenever someone on the Rays gets hurt. When that person gets nailed in the nuts with a baseball it makes me even happier. It's incredible that a nut shot to even the biggest of dudes will immediately cripple them.

You might need to pay attention to this next one because it gets a little bit confusing. During the 7th inning of Tuesday's Giants vs. Dodgers game Clayton Kershaw was ejected for intentionally hitting Aaron Rowand. Joe Torre came out to argue and was also tossed. Don Mattingly took over as manager for the game. In the 9th inning closer Jonathan Broxton loaded the bases with a 5-4 lead and 1 out.

Mattingly came out to the mound for a visit and started to head back to the dugout. He took 1 step off the dirt when James Loney said something to get his attention. Mattingly turned back and stepped back onto the mound. The rules state that a manager is allowed 1 visit to the mound each inning and on the 2nd visit you must replace your pitcher. Giants manager Bruce Bochy threw a shit fit and pointed it out to the umpire who confirmed that Broxton had to be replaced. George Sherrill was brought in but didn't have time to warm-up. A double, ground out and a single later gave the Giants a 7-5 win.

Mattingly is supposed to take over as Dodgers manager for Torre after the season. Awesome job Donald!
